So it’s official: TechRadar readers are more Android fans than iPhone users. The result is mostly what I expected, but not a huge gap.
Around the beginning of November, I published a poll asking the big question: Do TechRadar readers use iPhones or Android devices? Several weeks later, the results were in: 62% of survey respondents are part of the Android Army, while 29% are Team Apple, and 10% use both.
Now, the sheer amount of choice when it comes to Android phones, including… The best Android phones, meaning these phones will be the most popular. Likewise, Apple has a broad presence in the US, as does TechRadar, so I’d think we’d probably see roughly 40% of readers being iPhone users.
You had your say
Moving on to the comments, one of the notable reasons why people choose Android over iPhone is due to the restrictive nature of Apple phones; Since we’re talking TechRadar readers, where I assume I have a bit more technical knowledge than the average person, it’s no surprise that the closed nature of iPhones may not appeal to some.
“I always have been [an] Android user. “Apple and iPhone are too controlling for me,” said commentator Cscar.
This gave more weight to commentator Gooders: “I gave up using the iPhone years ago because I hated being forced to [do] Things the Apple way. If I wanted to transfer a file to my computer, I had to email it to myself because iTunes made that difficult. There is no cut and paste option.”
As a huge fan of Google’s best Pixel phones, I can see why the Godders decided to go the Pixel route. These would be the phones I would recommend to anyone moving from iOS to Android.
There are some commenters who point out that they use both iPhone and Android, but the evolution of Android, coupled with rugged hardware, seems to be one of the driving factors for people choosing Android phones or switching from iPhone.
“I have both, and there are elements I like better about each, but if I could only pick one it would definitely be android. There’s so much freedom and customization,” commenter SErics said. “Ability to sideload. I prefer the Android interface over iOS but this is obviously a personal preference.”
Even though I’m an iPhone user, because it’s very easy to use and more like a gadget than an interesting one, I feel the pull of Android again. I’ll be curious to see what the rumored Samsung Galaxy S26 brings to the table next year and if this is the phone that brings me back to Android.
If you have any thoughts to add, head on over to the comments and let me know, especially if you’re a die-hard iPhone user.
