A man has been arrested on murder charges in the fatal stabbing of a woman in Harlem

A man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a woman inside an upper Manhattan apartment.

Luis Marquez, 41, was charged with murder on Tuesday, hours after police identified the victim as 47-year-old Carmen Lopez.

He ignored questions when NYPD detectives from the 26th Precinct took him to his arraignment downtown.

Investigators believe Marquez is Lopez’s ex-boyfriend, who was attacked around 4:30 a.m. Monday inside her apartment building on West 129th Street in Manhattan.

Police say a surveillance camera captured the suspect waiting for Lopez in the third-floor lobby of her apartment building.

When she arrived, the suspect stabbed her several times all over her body.

She was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead.

Lopez’s loved ones never imagined anyone would want to hurt her.

Devastated but determined friends struggled against the cold wind to honor the 47-year-old mother of four outside the building on 129th Street, whom they knew as “Yadi.”

She was a good friend, a good mother and so much more, according to the many women who brought flowers and letters saying how much they missed her smile and big heart.

While her family asked for privacy, friends shared hugs and tears and said Lopez did not tell them anything about Marquez that would lead them to believe she was in danger.

Sources told Eyewitness News that a tip led them to Marquez, who showed up at Lincoln Hospital with injuries from the vicious attack.

His mental condition was evaluated before his arrest at the hospital.

He has no criminal history, and is now awaiting his first appearance before a judge to face a murder charge.
