A man is in custody after a domestic situation led to an hours-long SWAT standoff in Miami County.

As stated in News Center 7 at 6:00Officers responded around 12:30 p.m. to the 900 block of Boal Street.

The Piqua-Sidney Tactical Response Team was activated just after 3 p.m., and officers obtained a search warrant, according to a Piqua police spokesperson.

Our news crew saw numerous police vehicles and SWAT vehicles at the scene.

The spokesman said one of the victims reported that the suspect had a knife and threatened to harm himself. The suspect refused officers entry into the home and stopped speaking with officers after a brief phone call. The victim told officers that the suspect also had weapons.

Our news crew was on the scene when the standoff ended.

The suspect came out with his hands raised and shouted at police.

Deputy Chief Miles Gearing told News Center 7’s Malik Patterson that this man was no stranger to Piqua Police.

Patterson also spoke with a neighbor. Jason Tillman said he’s never seen so many officers on his street before.

“It’s kind of nervous,” Tillman said. “You know, we have kids. Everyone has kids here, and you don’t really know what’s going on.”

No one was injured during the incident.

A 51-year-old man is in custody on charges of domestic violence and obstruction of official business. He is being held in the Miami County Jail.

It shows Thomas Runkle, 51, was booked into the Miami County Jail at 4:40 p.m. after he was arrested in the 900 block of Boal Street. We are working to confirm whether he is the suspect in this incident.
