The Israeli military says Hamas’s financial chief was killed in the same raid as his second-in-command

Zaqot was responsible for recruiting and transferring tens of millions of dollars to the Al-Qassam Brigades to support its operations against Israel.

Abd al-Hay Zaqut, a member of the financial department of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, was killed two weeks ago in an air strike on the car in which senior Hamas leader Raad Saad was killed, Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee announced in Arabic on X/Twitter on Wednesday morning.

Adraee pointed out that Zaqout, who was killed during a joint operation by the Israeli army and the Shin Bet, was a resident of Gaza City and was responsible for recruiting and transferring tens of millions of dollars to the Qassam Brigades to support its operations against Israel.

He added, “The Israeli army and the Shin Bet will continue their efforts to obstruct the financing of terrorism and will act against all those involved in terrorism or in providing assistance to plan and carry out terrorist attacks against the State of Israel.”

Senior Hamas leader Raad Saad

Two weeks ago, the IDF announced the killing of senior Hamas leader Raad Saad, one of the most prominent terrorists in the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, in a targeted air strike.

The army said that Saad had recently participated in attempts to recover and produce weapons for Hamas.

Sources within the Military Intelligence Directorate said that the raid launched by the Israeli army on Saad came in response to an attack on Israeli army forces in the Gaza Strip using an explosive device.

Two soldiers were slightly injured in the attack and were taken to hospital for treatment.
