The White House sent CBS a statement it had not used in a CECOT “60 Minutes” segment delayed by network editor-in-chief Barry Weiss, in which it called out the show for exaggerating Angel Parents stories.

“As 60 Minutes concluded its Inside CECOT report last Thursday, CBS sent a request to the White House for comment. A White House spokesperson responded within a few hours. The quote was not included in the 60 report — so judge for yourself whether it should be included or not,” CNN media analyst Brian Stelter said. Written on X Tuesday.

A statement from White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said: According to the New York Times“60 Minutes should spend its time and energy amplifying the stories of Angel Parents, whose innocent American children were tragically murdered by evil, illegal aliens like President Trump. [sic] Deportation from the country.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to CBS and the White House for comment.

Hours before “Inside CECOT” aired on Sunday, “60 Minutes” issued a statement saying the segment had been postponed after it was “determined that it required additional reporting.” The clip, which was leaked online after airing in Canada, features reporter Sharyn Alfonsi Interviewing Venezuelan deportees who were sent to El Salvador’s maximum security prison after being deported by the Trump administration.

Fox News Digital reported that CBS News editor-in-chief Barry Weiss made the decision to postpone the segment after deciding that although the interviews were “strong,” the story ultimately did not “advance the ball” and “wasn’t ready.”

While the clip omitted the White House statement, it included a clip of White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt saying in March of deported Venezuelan men, “These are heinous monsters, rapists, murderers, kidnappers, sexual assaulters, predators, they have no right to be in this country and they must be held accountable.”

Alfonsi accused Weiss of sensationalizing the story on political grounds and noted in a memo that the administration had remained silent when it requested interviews. However, the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the White House, reportedly sent recorded statements that were not included in this section.

“Our story has been run five times and has been approved by CBS attorneys, standards and practices,” Alfonsi wrote on Monday. “This is factually correct. In my view, withdrawing it now, after all the rigorous internal scrutiny has been completed, is not an editorial decision, but rather a political decision.”

“If management’s refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to publish a story, we have effectively given them a kill switch on any reporting they find uncomfortable,” she added.

The full clip was broadcast in Canada through Canada’s Global TV app and quickly spread online on Monday. The video did not include any interviews with Trump officials or any administration statements other than the short clip of Levitt, and another short clip of President Donald Trump praising El Salvador’s strict prison system.
