The storm will bring widespread snow, mixes and hazardous travel to the Tri-State area Friday into Saturday

An AccuWeather Alert will go into effect Friday night for a storm system coming from the Ohio River Valley that could bring widespread snow to New York City and the Tri-State area.

The storm is expected to begin moving across the Tri-State Friday afternoon, with the brunt of it coming Friday night, potentially making for hazardous travel for the evening commute.

Accumulating snow may be possible across much of the region, with a widespread early snowfall map of 3 to 6 inches expected in our area, including New York City.

The highest accumulations could come north and west of the city, with Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Pike counties and parts of northwestern New Jersey likely to reach more than six inches.

There may be some mixing across central and southern New Jersey, including areas south of I-95, where totals will be lower because there will not be fresh snow.

Eventually, snow could turn into a mix in the city by Saturday morning when the storm begins to taper off, but travel could still be risky.
