A Canton, Ohio, store robbery suspect on Thursday allegedly tried to shoot a police officer at point-blank range, but his gun jammed.
Fox News I mentioned The suspect was taken to a security room at a local Walmart, and security footage showed him pulling out a gun and allegedly trying to shoot an officer.
Fox 8 male The officer had just asked the suspected robber, 21-year-old Shane Newman, “Do you have anything I want to know? Why do you have your hand in your pocket?”
The verbal exchange between Newman and the officer continued, with Newman feeling antsy when the officer ran his Social Security number. Newman then allegedly turned around, pulled a gun out of the bag he was carrying, and attempted to shoot the police officer. However, the gun jammed.
A “Wal-Mart security employee” then intervened and took the gun away from Newman before the officer was targeted again.
It turned out that Newman had a warrant for his arrest that described him as “armed and dangerous.”
