Lindsey Vonn, 41, adds another platform to the start of her amazing comeback | Lindsey Vonn

Sofia Goggia finally got the speed skating win she deserved this season at the Super-G World Cup on Sunday and Lindsey Vonn finished third for the second day in a row.

The two former Olympic champions were split on the high-class podium by runner-up Alice Robinson, who has already won twice this season on the World Cup circuit.

Goggia finished the race 0.15 seconds behind Robinson, who started before strong winds delayed the race for 10 minutes.

The 41-year-old Vonn reached a high speed of 115 kilometers per hour (71 mph) – among the fastest of the day – but the perfect racing line was elusive and she finished 0.36 behind Goggia.

The result was unofficial as the lower-ranked contestants had not yet started.

Vonn’s consecutive podium finish – following her impressive third-place finish in Saturday’s downhill – was the 142nd of her World Cup career. It resumed exactly one year ago after a five-season retirement to target the Milan Cortina Olympics, which start on February 6.

Vonn’s intense start to the World Cup season now reads one win, four podiums and a fourth place in five races over 10 days. The win in the Swiss resort of St Moritz last weekend was the 83rd in her World Cup career, which began in November 2000, before the 24-year-old Robinson was born.

Vonn is now taking a three-week break from racing until the January 10 downhill in Altenmarkt, Austria.

Goggia has skied fast this season but her best results were a third place in St Moritz, in the downhill and a Super-G race which Robinson won in a tight race with Vonn finishing fourth.

The 33-year-old Italian’s 27th career World Cup win was her eighth in super-G.
