Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem The film was a huge hit at the box office in 2023, so it made perfect sense to stay the course by turning the fantastic animated film into a great series on Paramount+. The film takes place just two months after the events of the film that saw our half-shelled green heroes, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo, take on a crew of mutants in New York City, the spin-off. Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles It follows sewer dwellers as they juggle high school drama with saving the city.

With their wise rat father Splinter (who only speaks “bug” in the series because Jackie Chan didn’t sign on) watching over them and reporter April O’Neil lending a hand as well, each 20-minute episode features two fun stories told by one of the brothers. Many of the film’s voice actors reprise their roles from the series, including all of the Turtles, Ayo Edebiri as O’Neill, Pete Davidson as Rod, and Rose Byrne as Leatherhead, to name a few. The jokes are quick and poignant, the ninja action is fun and ferocious, and the pizza is cheesy, making the show a great stopgap between films (the next one is due out in 2027). I love the animation style of this series (and the movie as well), because it reminds me of the cool and creative style from the animated series. Spider-Man cartoon films (Through the spider verse In fact, it contains several scenes worked on by Titmouse, the animation studio behind the film Tales).

All twenty episodes Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Both seasons are available to stream on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

I have to be honest here: not counting the excellent animation Basement floorsI haven’t really watched the Trek series since The next generation Until the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. And I’m so glad I did. I was a fan of Bruce Greenwood’s character Captain Pike in 2009 Star Trek Motion picture with Chris Pine (not in the same universe, I know), and I love the energy and charisma that Anson Mount brings to the role. northwest.

But let’s go back: a direct introduction to The original series, Strange new worlds It follows the crew of the iconic USS Enterprise before Captain James T. Kirk takes command on his five-year mission. On board are up-and-coming crew members you may recognize, like Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), and other key teammates like Pike’s Number One and Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn).

Similar to other Trek series, northwestThe “stand-alone, mission-driven” episodes align with Enterprise’s mission to “chart the stars, push the boundaries of what’s known and what’s possible,” and “seek new life and go where the aliens are.” The Emmy-nominated series is visually stunning, contains creative and clever mysteries for the crew to confront, and features hilarious roles from actors like Patton Oswalt. Critics loved the series, and Rotten Tomatoes rated it 94%. All three seasons are available to stream on Paramount+.

1923

You can’t think of Paramount+ without thinking of Taylor Sheridan. The prolific actor-turned-screenwriter has had one hit after another, including… Tulsa King, LandmanAnd it’s true, Yellowstone. In October, Sheridan announced that he would be moving to NBCUniversal in 2028, but don’t worry, there’sStill acres and acres of good drama to watch, including 1923one of two active subsidiaries of the Dutton family Drama (with four more on the way).

I guess I should have started with the other one Yellowstone prequel, 1883But as a huge fan of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, I couldn’t resist. 1923 The film takes place about 40 years after the Duttons staked their claim on what is now known as their sprawling Montana ranch, Yellowstone. These Dutons (Jacob and his iron-willed wife Kara, played by Ford and Mirren) face many of the same challenges as their heirs – businessmen like Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) and rival pastors like Banner Creighton (game of thronesBron Jerome Flynn), trying to seize their lands, or kill them, or both. But they also have to deal with the adversities of the time, such as Prohibition and the looming Great Depression.

1923The period setting creates a somber atmosphere for the show’s two seasons, and the casting of Ford (the definition of gruff) as Jacob is on target. But it’s Mirren who shines brightest as the utterly terrifying matriarch, who may or may have been training for her similar role in MobLand. 1923 It is a worthy introduction yellowstone, If you are looking for a fix.
