
Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison in Romania over a drug possession conviction linked to his arrest last year.
The Constanta Court of Appeal issued the ruling on Thursday, more than a year after the rapper was arrested while performing in the country.
The 38-year-old artist, whose real name is Cameron Gabriel Thomaz, was at the top of the list of celebrities. Beach please! festival in Costinete in July 2024, when authorities allege he was in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis and consumed some of it on stage.
According to news agencyThe court convicted Khalifa of illegal possession of “dangerous drugs for personal consumption.”
The decision is final and follows a previous ruling in April 2025 that fined him 3,600 lei, or about $830. The prosecution requested a harsher sentence, which was approved by the Court of Appeal.
In their written ruling, the judges said the ruling was intended to send a message, describing Khalifa’s actions as “showy” and socially harmful. They added that his behavior could encourage illegal drug use, especially among young people.
After his arrest in 2024, Khalifa apologized on X for smoking marijuana on stage, saying he did not mean to disrespect Romania.
As a US citizen who does not reside in the country, it remains unclear whether Romanian authorities will seek his extradition.
