
Colin Farrell has made a striking personal confession about what strikes him most about the human condition.
While speaking with Jesse Buckley Variety cast upon cast In the series, the Irish actor admitted that the darker aspects of life have interested him for a long time, both personally and professionally.
The revelation comes as Farrell plays an addict in his latest film, Ballad of a Small Player.
Farrell expanded on his point, explaining that although his life is full of happiness, pain remains the most universal human experience.
“I have crazy moments of joy in my life, joy at work, and joy with my kids,” he said.
“But I’ve always felt that the common denominator when it comes to experience as human beings is pain.”
The Oscar-nominated actor went on to explain that he sees fear and uncertainty as extensions of the same emotional core.
“The only thing we all felt was really pain. I put fear and uncertainty under that slogan,” he said.
Farrell also spoke about the imbalance of the human experience, noting that not everyone is lucky enough to experience joy.
He added: “Unfortunately, not everyone felt joy, and this is a great tragedy.”
Concluding his candid thoughts, Farrell explained: “I am fascinated by pain, because every act of aggression or violence has its roots in pain that has become personal.”
