18 triumphant images from the 1839 Photography Awards

In 1839, photography became a medium widely available to the public. And the world has changed.

It is named in honor of the landmark year of photography, and 1839 awards Celebrates stunning images from around the world. This year’s competition received entries from 79 countries and honored winners in professional and non-professional categories.

A press release explained, “The winning works embody a dynamic spectrum of artistic research, moving between nuanced studies of personal identity and comprehensive depictions of societal and environmental narratives.” “Each image is a reminder of the power of photography to provoke thought and cultivate communication.”
