The guitarist and founding member of the metal band breathed his last on Saturday, October 18, at the age of 48, the band announced in a post on social media.

Although no official cause has been confirmed, the post strongly suggests that the spinning disc was indicative of illness.

In other posts, DJ Lethal mourned the loss of his bandmate and close friend, writing, “I’m in shock right now. We’ve lost a family member, bandmate, and legend.” He shared a touching selfie with Rivers, captioning it:

“Bob has a new badass bass player in heaven. We love you, Sam!”

Thinking about their relationship, he added:

“We were silent,” remembering the quiet relationship they shared.

Lethal also revealed that they have been in touch recently:

“Sam and I last texted. We talked on the phone a few weeks ago.”

He concluded his greeting with a reminder to fans and loved ones:

“Tell your friends you love them so much, before you can’t!”
