Kim Kardashian made a sensational appearance at the Academy Museum’s fifth annual gala on October 18, wearing a stunning outfit that quickly became the center of conversation.
The 44-year-old SKIMS founder appeared with a nude-colored face mask that completely concealed her hair and facial features, completely transforming her appearance.
The mask was part of Maison Margiela’s entire fall 2025 collection, including a strapless corset gown with pleated sleeves, and long coordinating nude nails.
Her look was completed with a multi-layered, crystal-embellished necklace featuring green jewels and criss-cross pendants – also from the couture collection.
On Instagram Stories, Kardashian shared a series of shots showcasing the look, including a reference photo from the Maison Margiela runway.
In a behind-the-scenes video, she joked with makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic as she applied the finishing touches.
“Mario, do I look okay? Makeup?” I asked and he replied, “Your makeup looks great, yeah.” She laughed, “Is that okay? All this hard work, guys. I feel like I always do this with Mario.”
The bold look sparked mixed reactions online. While some praised her commitment – “This is really interesting” and “Next level is great” – others were less impressed. “It looks like a brown paper bag over her head,” one critic wrote.
This appearance sparked comparisons to Kardashian’s appearance at the 2021 Met Gala, where she wore a similar outfit that covered her face designed by Balenciaga.
Known for her bold fashion choices, Kardashian recently wore another Maison Margiela design to the DVF Awards in Italy, and earlier this week, she stunned at the All’s Fair premiere in a structured Schiaparelli Couture gown with a high bun and a glossy nude lip.
