It’s puzzling enough that Louisville student Maggie Kerin attends Woodland Hills High School and will soon attend the University of Louisville in Kentucky on a full scholarship.
Let’s forget about Louisville for a moment. Did you know that she has a scholarship waiting for her based on her hockey skills? And the high school she goes to doesn’t have a hockey team.
She got the offer based on her playing in the hockey club. At Louisville High, she is thrilled to play volleyball and soccer when strangers have no idea she is one of the best hockey players in Southern California.
Her father, Jeff Kerin, a former Loyola High and Cal State Northridge football coach, is Crespi’s JV soccer coach and has been taking her to competitions for years. He consulted with others about whether Maggie should go to a high school with hockey, and they told him that being good at multiple sports would help her versatility in hockey.
Maggie has been playing this sport since she was five years old.
“She came home one night and said, ‘I want to play the stick game.’ “I thought it was lacrosse,” her father said.
Now she has the means to pay for her college education. “No one is happier than mom and dad,” her father said.
