On October 15, people around the world light Wave of Light candles to honor children who have died. This is the second year that the Prince and Princess of Wales have contributed to the effort, and in 2024, Catherine wrote a heartfelt message alongside a photo of her candle. “Child Loss Awareness Week is an important moment to support those who have experienced the devastation of child loss. Sending love, strength and hope to anyone affected. #WaveofLight,” she wrote. The note is signed with the letter C, to indicate that it was written by Catherine herself.
A collaboration between Plum & Ashby, Tommy’s and author Elle Wright, the candles were designed specifically for the Wave of Light project. The candle comes packaged with a “Remembrance Card,” allowing the owner to write and reflect on “precious names, dates or words of love” while honoring them.
In 2022, both Kate Middleton and Prince William took to their official social media accounts to share a message of support and a list of resources for those who have experienced the tragedy of losing a child.
The couple wrote on their Twitter page: “Take a moment during Baby Loss Awareness Week to think about all those affected by pregnancy and baby loss.” Instagram Stories, before directing followers to support services such as Child Bereavement UK, Maternal Mental Health Alliance, Sands Charity and Tommy’s.
“Please reach out if you feel this can help you or someone you know,” they wrote.
