Betty Yee, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in California, spent four minutes during an interview Wednesday insisting that biological males who identify as transgender women should be allowed to compete in women’s sports.
President Donald Trump signed on Executive order On February 5, he blocked federal funding from schools that allow men who identify as transgender women to play in women’s sports. Journalist Piers Morgan questioned Yee, the former comptroller of California, about the upcoming 2028 Summer Olympics that Los Angeles will host. “You have the Olympics coming to California, to Los Angeles. Are you proposing that you would allow transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports in the Olympics if you were governor?” Morgan asked Yee, and he responded, “Well, I think there’s still a lot of discussion that needs to happen. I think there’s a lot of information that we need to learn about, and what’s actually going on in terms of the ability of transgender athletes to compete, but my statement is about being able to make sure that they can compete. And now—”
The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOC) announced. New rules Which effectively prevents biological males who identify as transgender women from competing in women’s sports, as do the UCI, WBA, and World Aquatics.

“Yes, but my question is whether you think they should compete in women’s sports in the Olympics, because it’s coming to Los Angeles. “I think transgender athletes are athletes and they should be able to compete,” Morgan said, interrupting Yee, who answered.
“Awesome. Really? So you – if you were governor of California, you would support biological males competing as women in women’s sports at the Olympics?” Morgan asked, with Yee repeating: “They now identify as transgender female and should be allowed to do so.”
The issue of biological males competing as transgender in women’s sports became controversial after Leah Thomas competed in the 2022 NCAA Championships, where the biological male was beat Women’s 500 yards final. Trump said he supports banning biological men from competing in women’s sports during an October 16 town hall moderated by Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner.
“Can you think of one sport in the Olympics where men don’t have an advantage over women, except perhaps archery?” Morgan asked Yee, and she responded, “You know, I think you can see female athletes where — especially in track and field, where agility is likely to be —”
“What?! Wait, are you suggesting that women – so, wait, you think women can compete against men in track and field events, like 100 metres, 200 metres, 10,000 metres? Right?” Morgan interjected. In 2018, two biological men who identify as transgender women dominated the women’s 100-meter finals at the Connecticut track championships.
“Maybe. You know, I’m not an athlete—” “Maybe?! Of course they couldn’t,” Yee said before Morgan interjected. “Did you see—did you see the times that women and men record at the Olympics for all the track and field events? Did you watch Usain Bolt when he broke the 100-meter world record? So you think women could compete against Usain Bolt, for example, at his peak, and it would be Is that fair?
“I think there’s — look, I’ll just say this: There’s a lot of misinformation about what trans athletes are capable of —” Yee claimed before Morgan interrupted her again, saying, “That wasn’t my question. My question is, you brought the Olympics to your state. You want to be governor of California. I’m actually based in California, in Los Angeles. I’m very curious about Your response to how you want the Olympics to be conducted, which would be, are they fair and equitable for women? But it seems to me that you would like to remove any gender distinction between Olympic sports and allow them all to compete. It would be gender neutral, wouldn’t it, if you were a governor?
