Italian hotels and resorts see mixed trends in the second quarter

The tourism sector in Italy showed a variety of performance in the second quarter of 2025, as hotels and resorts witnessed different trends across regions and months.

The temporary data from the “Customer Movement in Residence Institutions” survey highlights small gains in overnight, despite the fluctuations in expatriates.

April 10.6 million tourists and 29.8 million accommodations during the night, which reflects a growth of 1.1 % and 6.2 % compared to April 2024.

However, May witnessed a decrease, as expatriates decreased by 2.1 % to 13.4 million and nights, decreased by 3.0 % to 38.8 million.

Analysts attribute this decrease to the differences in travel patterns and evaluation effects.

June represents a strong recovery, with 16.8 million access, an increase of 3.9 % year on year, and 59 million accommodations overnight, an increase of 9.7 %.

Hotels have witnessed modest growth, while non -mashed institutions such as renting holidays and camps recorded more fundamental gains, especially in heavy tourism areas.

Working in hotels increased steadily during a quarter, and reached its peak in June.

Home tourism showed mixed results: the Italian population decreased slightly in expatriates (-0.9 %), but they extended the average residency, as it rose from 2.78 nights in Q2 2024 to 2.89 nights.

International visitors contributed more important to growth, as expatriates rose by 2.7 % and a 5.9 % night residence, representing more than 60 % of total residencies during the night during this quarter.

Large cities and cultural destinations remained relatively stable, as the number of visitors increased by about 1 %, while the mountainous areas increased by 12 %.

Coastal tourism was largely fixed, although destinations on Romagna Riviera, including ravenna (+15.7 %) and CERVIA (+13.9 %), were reported noticeable. On the contrary, the gun recorded a 6.1 % decrease in the tourist situation.

Hotel institutions have witnessed a slight decrease in expatriates (-1.2 %), but the growth in residences overnight (+4.3 %), while non-hunt accommodations witnessed both expatriates and high-rise highs (+6.1 % and +5.4 %, respectively).

B & BS decreased slightly (-4 %), and the facilities remained outdoors like stable camps.

The second quarter data indicates an accurate image of Italian tourism: While total growth continues, performance varies through the types and areas of residence, which reflects the changing preferences between local and international travelers.
