
President Donald Trump announced on Friday that the group of 20 summit for next year will be held in a resort owned by his family business in Florida.
The president told reporters at the Oval Office that the “best site” of the two -day event. He added that his family work “will not earn any money on him.”
Trump gave up a similar hosting effort during his first term, when he sought to hold a group of seven summit in the Miami resort himself, after criticism from the two parties that he could benefit him financially and violate the condition of the constitution that prevents the president from receiving rewards from foreign governments without the approval of Congress.
The Trump administration has been scrutinized due to similar moral concerns from both sides this year when the Pentagon said it had accepted a luxurious Megagit from Qatar as a truce for Trump to use it.
Mayor of Miami Francis Suarez, a Republican, made brief statements in the Oval Office after Trump’s announcement on Friday and said that the summit in December 2026 will be a blessing for small business owners “who will benefit economically from obtaining the G20 in Miami.”
“It will bring millions and millions of dollars,” Trump said.
The country, which holds the presidency of the Group of Twenty, hosts the annual summit. South Africa holds the presidency this year and will host the summit in Johannesburg in November.
Trump said on Friday that he would not attend the gathering in South Africa. Instead, Vice President JD Vance is expected to attend the summit.
On Friday, Trump said that in addition to 19 countries and European and African unions, other countries will attend as “observers”. He also said that one of this invitation was extended to Poland when its new president, Carole Noruki, visited the White House this week.
The G20 summit was held last time in the United States in 2009, in Pittsburgh.
