Nearly 11 years have passed since Apple has provided the HomeKit Smart Home Framework, and the technical term “Homekit” is often used to indicate anything related to Apple smart home technology. But this changes with the next main updates of the company’s operating systems.
The Verifier explains that in the latest TVOS 26 Beta, preparation for AirPlay and HomeKit It has been changed to AirPlay and Apple Home. This change appears to indicate a new approach to the presence of the Apple smart home for the consumer. While there are signals to homekit on other Apple platforms, this is the only device that has a prominent Homekit Menu.
Change makes smart home technology more friendly and consumer for consumer. More importantly, it determines consistency with terms, and it is an Apple’s practice to adhere to it. For example, Apple Home Regalanding is in line with the marketing efforts “Works Works Works with Apple Home”, where Homekit products compatible with a special emblem in their packages. Previously, brands are referred to as “Apple HomeKit” on compatible devices.
Homekit has always pointed out mainly to Apple developer programming interfaces, and the term will definitely continue to use this way.
Reasons for verification that the brand rename is also symbolic for “the great expansion of the capabilities of smart homes from Apple”. Certainly, this is possible, with rumors of a new home axis and/or home with a large touch screen that floats around for years, and we have also heard about redesigning the home app. But until Apple gets the development of Siri in order, we will have to continue waiting for the “great expansion”.
