New Mexico has announced the state of emergency, as it embodies the severe floods across parts of the state, forcing evacuations, road closure, and threats of homes and companies.

The National Weather Service (NWS) released a Flash Flash Flash Emergency Case on Tuesday, and warned of the rapidly deteriorating conditions and high levels of rivers that threatened homes and companies.

Speaking to the local radio on Tuesday night, the mayor of Ruidoso Lin Kraovord said that there are reports of muddrops and gas leaks in the homes that were washed or severely damaged. In reference to three people who reported his loss, Crovord said, “Referring to three people missing. He described the situation as “catastrophic” for the small mountain community, adding that the multiple bridges were underwater and there were more than twenty of the fast water rescue operations.

Rescue operations included people trapped in their cars and homes, as flood water rises.

The crisis comes in Ruidoso while historical floods also strike Texas, where at least 161 people were reported. The disaster motivated a new discussion about preparation and response in the region. The governor of Texas Greg Abbott, a Republican, has students of questions about the responsibility of the state during a recent press conference, confirming the political tensions surrounding the efforts to restore and prevent floods.
