007 First Light dev admits he botched the PC specs announcement

IO Interactive raised some eyebrows last week when it announced its minimum recommended PC specifications 007 first light. To run the James Bond adventure in 1080p at 60fps, IOI initially said you’d need a machine with at least 32GB of RAM and a GPU with 12GB of VRAM. The studio has now revised these numbers and other elements of the specifications after the community “pointed out some inconsistencies in an earlier version of the list.”

The developer blamed an “internal misunderstanding” that led to an outdated version of the spec being shared. One of the recommended GPUs in the original release was the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, which has 8GB of VRAM — not enough to meet the default recommended VRAM settings.

It seems a bit strange to think that it took IOI more than a week and a massive pile of negative press and online feedback before the inconsistency was addressed (not to mention the demand for 32GB of RAM for relatively modest 1080p 60fps performance). The studio says it has updated the specifications after “extensive re-examination and additional testing.”

In the Recommended Hardware section of the latest release, IOI has revised the VRAM from 12GB to 8GB and halved the RAM requirement to 16GB. IOI also “fixed” the minimum CPU information. The original specifications stated that gamers would need at least an Intel Core i5 9500K or an AMD Ryzen 5 3500. The former has now been revised to an Intel Core i5 9500K.

For the tape, then, the minimum PC specifications to run it 007 first light With a performance target of 1080p at 30fps, it’s:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 9500, AMD Ryzen 5 3500

  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, AMD RX 5700, or equivalent Intel Discrete GPU

The recommended specifications for the 1080p@60fps performance target are:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 13500, AMD Ryzen 5 7600

  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, AMD RX 6700 XT, or equivalent Intel Discrete GPU

The operating system required is the same in both cases with a 64-bit version of Windows 10 or 11. The storage space required is also the same and is 80 GB.

IOI apologized for the “confusion” caused by the mix-up. I promised to share more details about 007 first light Ahead of the game’s arrival on May 27 – including details of additional performance objectives. Given the way RAM and GPU prices are going, hopefully IOI won’t be looking for more to run the game at 1440p or 4K at a decent frame rate.
